Chelsea have been given some real encouragement if they decide to pursue a big-name player in January, with a rumour emerging that he’s very keen to join them next month.
Chelsea's plans for the January transfer window
Chelsea are planning a relatively quiet January transfer window despite sitting third in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Arsenal, with the club instead focusing their recruitment efforts on the summers of 2026 and 2027.
According to some reports, very few major arrivals are expected at Stamford Bridge in January, with Chelsea apparently ruling out signings in goalkeeper, centre-back, and defensive midfielder positions during the mid-season window.
The Blues already have two guaranteed arrivals secured for next summer, RC Strasbourg’s Emmanuel Emegha and Sporting’s Geovany Quenda, with fellow highly-rated starlets Dastan Satpaev and Denner also due at Cobham next year.
Liam Delap’s shoulder injury, initially feared to sideline him for two months, appears less serious than first anticipatedwith the striker expected back within four weeks.

This revised timeline alleviates immediate pressure to bolster Chelsea’s attacking options in the winter, allowing the club to proceed with their long-term planning.
However, Chelsea could deviate from their youth-focused transfer philosophy by targeting experienced Al-Hilal midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who earns approximately £418,000 weekly in Saudi Arabia.
The Serbia international may be available on a free transfer next summer, with Chelsea valuing his leadership qualities as a potential addition to Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Much has been made of the lack of experience in Chelsea’s squad, and John Terry has urged them to do a deal for ex-Stamford Bridge favourite Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian will leave Fluminense as a free agent next month, 18 months after departing Chelsea for his homeland, and Terry believes it is a no-brainer.
For any Chelsea supporter that agrees with Terry, journalist Simon Phillips has now shared a pretty positive update on this.
Thiago Silva privately expresses wish to re-join Chelsea in January
According to the reporter, Silva has privately said that he would re-join Chelsea next month if the opportunity presents itself.
However, the west Londoners would need one of their current central defenders to leave first.
The 41-year-old is long in the tooth but adored by Chelsea fans the world over, not to mention a serial winner and key leader of the squad for years before his eventual departure.

On a free, it would be a fairly low-risk move, especially if Silva’s salary fits into the club’s wage structure.
